About us

The Biodiversity, Ecotoxicology and Ecosystem Services Research Group (BEES-RG) is a multidisciplinary Research Group dedicated to advancing scientific understanding of how biodiversity sustains ecosystem functions and human well-being in a rapidly changing world. Our research integrates insect ecology, toxicology, environmental science, ethnoecology and technology to address the pressing challenges of biodiversity loss, environmental pollution, and ecosystem degradation. Our research explores insect biodiversity and behaviour, pollination ecology, bee health, agroecology and beekeeping, emphasizing the vital role of insects in maintaining healthy and productive ecosystems. We also study soil ecology and the effects of land use (agrochemicals), mining activities and other pollutants on insects, soil organisms, water systems, and human health, aiming to provide scientific insights that support sustainable agriculture and environmental protection.

In addition, BEES-RG integrates ecological modelling, artificial intelligence (AI), and sensor technologies to monitor environmental changes, assess ecological risks, and develop predictive tools for ecosystem management. These technological approaches enhance our understanding of ecosystem services, such as pollination ecology, biodiversity, soil fertility, food safety and security and water regulation key components of ecological resilience and human well-being.

Through collaboration with universities, research institutions, industry partners, NGOs, and policymakers, BEES-RG is committed to producing impactful science that informs decision-making and promotes the conservation of biodiversity and ecosystem functions for future generations.
